We all know that winter can be tough on our vehicles, but summer can also wreak havoc. Overheated engines, overworked air conditioners, and increased driving miles are all culprits of an underperforming vehicle. Get ahead of any potential issues now before the heat really hits your vehicle—and your wallet.
Here are a few places to start:
Test your AC now
Now is the time to give your air conditioning a whirl. After all, you don’t want to be stuck with no cool air in the middle of August. Turn it on full blast. Does the air take several minutes to get cold? Is the air flow light or full? Does the air smell bad? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, bring it into Rolf’s Import Auto. We’ll let you know if you simply need more Freon, or if there’s a larger issue. In any case, we’ll help you stay cool for the long haul.
Check your battery
If there’s one thing your car definitely needs to run, it’s the battery. Heat causes your battery fluid to evaporate—this can mean corrosion. It couldn’t hurt to have Rolf’s Import Auto take a look to make sure your battery can go the distance this summer.
Replenish your fluids
Speaking of expanding, all of your vehicle’s fluids will expand in the heat. They have important jobs, such as keeping your engine cool. Start your summer off right by topping off all fluids to avoid overheating.
Wax on, wax off
Dirt and grime bakes in the sun and scratches away at your car’s top coat. Keeping it clean and waxed provides a barrier, protecting from scratches, rust, and structural damage.
Keep your oil at optimal levels
Oil is key for lubrication, which prevents overheating. If you’re low on oil, simply add more. And if it’s been more than 5,000 miles since your last oil change, be sure to get one as soon as possible.
