Tacoma is a port city on the Puget Sound. It is the second largest city in Western Washington and is the county seat of Pierce County. The city got it's name from the pronunciation of "Mount Rainier" in the Puget Sound Salish dialect. Tacoma's motto is "when rails meet sails" because the area was chosen to be the terminus of the Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1940 the city made the news when the "Tacoma Narrows Bridge" (aka Galloping Gertie) collapsed.

If you like to golf, Chambers Bay Golf Course is location in the Tacoma area. This Course is the first in the Northwest to host the Men's US Open Championship. There are also a number of hiking and biking trails.
