DuPont got its name in the when the DuPont Chemical Company began operating an explosives manufacturing plant in the area. In 1906 hundreds of people lived in the village and worked at the plant. In 1975 when the DuPont factory closed the land was purchased by Weyerhaeuser and the land was developed in the 1980's. Today the community of DuPont to expanding and has several events to attract visitors to the area. Residents and visitors can enjoy the fall farmers market located in Clocktower Park or Hudson's Bay Days which is also held at Clocktower Park.

The city also hosts the Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament in August. All raffle proceeds for this event in 2022 were donated to the Boys and Girls Club. Other events include a Hometown 4th of July celebration and a holiday tree lighting in Ross Plaza Park.
